About the Digital Library

The Digital Library is a product under continuous construction and development by the Global South Alliance—a group of 26 organizations working on digital rights from the Global South. The Library aims to organize documents and resources from these organizations and facilitate the exchange of information to enhance their research and advocacy activities at the international level.

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and organized Digital Librarian to manage and develop a growing digital library dedicated to supporting digital rights organizations from civil society and academic institutions primarily in the Global South. As the Digital Librarian, you will play a vital role in maintaining and improving a digital library that facilitates access to essential resources for researchers, advocates, and organizations in the digital rights space. This role requires someone with a strong understanding of the digital rights landscape, outstanding organizational skills, and a proactive approach to managing partner relationships and resources. The Librarian will also be responsible for leading a translation and localization project for the library, from conducting a needs assessment to ensuring the availability of the library in different languages.

Key Responsibilities

  • Product Management: Oversee the development and maintenance of the digital library platform, ensuring it meets the evolving needs of users from civil society organizations and academia in the Global South.
  • Content Management: Curate, organize, and maintain library resources, ensuring content is relevant, up-to-date, and accessible to users.
  • Localization Project: Localisation of all front-end elements of the GSA Digital Library platform into at least 2 additional relevant regional languages besides English, according to best practices and standards for website localisation, with progress reports documenting the localisation process.
  • Partner Engagement: Actively engage with partner organizations, academics, and stakeholders to understand their needs, gather feedback, and foster a community around the digital library.
  • Data Management and Compliance: Ensure all resources adhere to data management standards, privacy policies, and copyright regulations.
  • Knowledge Sharing: Facilitate information-sharing sessions, workshops, and training for users to maximize the platform’s impact.

Candidate profile and expected skills

  • Fluency in the English language, written and spoken (Spanish is a plus);
  • Good communication skills;
  • Sound organizational and administrative skills;
  • Experience with Notion;
  • Experience with shared workspaces and Zoom platform;
  • Experience on the digital rights agenda;
  • Knowledge of civil society advocacy;
  • Flexibility to attend virtual meetings/events in different time zones;
  • Highly professional ethics;
  • Must be resourceful, a good problem-solver, and flexible.

Job description

Title: Digital Librarian

Type of work: Remote work regime (online)

Geographic position: This position is open exclusively to people from the Global South (even if currently based in the Global North). 

Type of contract: 12-month duration contract, private agreement (not employment according to Brazilian legislation)

Salary:  US$800,00 x 12 months
