Asymmetries and Power
With an eye on datafication processes and their impacts on society, in this line of research, we seek to understand power and information asymmetries that are created or intensified by the advancement of technologies and the massive use of personal data by governments and companies. This work starts from an understanding of how technologies relate to social processes of marginalization, discrimination, and violence from the lens of social identities such as gender, class and race.
We intend to investigate how social control takes place from the sharing and centralization of databases and the use of surveillance technologies and why the protection of personal data should be explicitly placed on a social justice agenda.
